So this morning, as I was being awoken by being poked in the face with a pacifier, I realized that my baby is 32 weeks old. Her new morning ritual is to roll over to the side of her basinet and reach as far as she can until she can either pull my hair or poke me with something to wake me up. Then it’s.. “HEY! HEEYYY! HEY HEY HEY!!” I look back on “baby pictures” and I don’t even recognize the tiny 6 lb 13 oz black haired baby girl that looked like a speck in her daddy’s arms. Now I have a 21 lb rolly-polly, happy, chubby, blonde headed little girl that is only sitting still when she’s sleeping. The only thing that hasn’t changed are those blue eyes. Otherwise, she’s a completely different kid all together. Ask anyone who has kids and they’ll say… “It flies by..” and it just sounds like something to say… but I didn’t realize just how true it was until Briley. I remember having just come home from the hospital and someone saying.. “Just think… she’ll start sleeping though the night around 2 months of age..” and thinking that I really just wanted to pull that persons hair out. Seriously? 2 months? JUST 2 months? Nahh.. don’t worry.. I won’t need sleep for 8 weeks. No problem. I got this. The night she was 8 weeks old she slept through the night. I remember that morning very clearly.. waking up and saying… “OMG! Is she OKAY? What’s wrong!? Is she breathing!?!” Now my baby happily sleeps 10-12 hours through the night and I look back on that tiny little time frame of 8 weeks that felt more like 2 days and I understand completely when people say “It flies by.” :(
