Beau’s Nursery

So this is something that I’ve looked forward to doing for so, so long. We were still in the process of building our home when Briley was born.. so she never got a nursery. I never got to do the whole nesting thing. Didn’t get to come home from a baby shower to put everything up nicely and neatly into it’s place to “get ready.” She was almost 1 and it wasn’t much of a nursery when we finally moved into our house. So this time.. I got to put my nursery together.. but I had a little extra help. ;) Big sister Briley was SOO excited to help me put everything together. She loves going through clothes and blankets.. loudly proclaiming that each item is apparently “SOOO CUUUTEEE.” She set stuffed animals out.. put books on the bookshelf, folded and hung clothes up. She was my awesome little helper through it all. She even had a say-so in the room colors. ;) She also drew a family portrait of B, her and I which I framed for the room. (She was SO excited when she saw it in a frame.) ;) 2 of my wonderful friends threw me an amazing baby shower a couple of weeks ago.. and afterward, Bear and I came home.. B unloaded everything.. and she helped me carry each bag into the room and put everything away. Something I’ve looked forward to doing for months. Seeing a stack of diaper boxes hoarded in the corner of the room made everything seem a little more real. ;)

The nursery was the downstairs guest room. It’s adjacent to Briley’s room and is identical to her room as far as the layout, except that it is flipped. That room has been a major “catch-all” room since the day we moved in. In fact, I cleaned it out 3 other separate times! At one point we just moved the bed out completely and into an upstairs guest room and left it filled with boxes and things that didn’t really have a place. Cleaning that room out was a chore.. but my awesome husband helped me and we were able to knock most of it out in 1 day. I couldn’t believe it.

Here is a little “before and after” iPhone pic of the cleaning out process. I was never so happy to see an empty room!!

I ended up doing a little bit “Where the Wild Things Are,” (Briley’s favorite book when she was younger) and a little bit bohemian. I am in LOVE with the wall color. I went through about 5 samples before I found one that was dark enough. The samples made me worry that the room was going to be too dark.. so I started light, but when they were actually up, they were way too light. I ended up going 2 shades darker than my “darkest option!” Main colors were Navy, teal and silver/gray. I wanted a really cool accent wall.. and started to go with thick stripes (like Briley’s room) but went for something a little more different. I searched for the perfect Birch tree stencil. No I didn’t do it.. we had the room painted. I have neither the patience or the skill to use 1 fairly small stencil for an entire wall like that. ;) Briley also has her name in mismatched letters above her bed. I originally planned on doing the same thing, but went with something I thought would look more “masculine” and he could use for years to come. LOVE the huge letters. Had to use some super heavy duty “monkey hooks” to hang them.. (husband did a good job, with my help, of getting them level. He always HATES hanging anything in the house because he knows how OCD I am about things being symmetrical. ;)

Love how his room came together and cannot wait to bring him home to it. Finally.. a some pictures of our boy’s nursery!! :)
